MFW – Versace A/W 2013 collection
With Versace’s past collection not looking as true to the brand as we had expected, we were certainly excited to see what the A/W 2013 collection had in store.
For this collection, Donatella herself had called it “Vunk” – her version of punk. As the collection started to unveil itself, we noticed it had taken a very Versace theme again and was very Donatella. The brand had claimed this collection was looking forward to a new glamour and a new rock ‘n’ roll.
We saw plenty of PVC, tartan, studs and zips which only felt like a 90s invasion to us, but we’re not complaining. The whole collection was very sexy and almost power dressing. With statement dresses, some of the pieces looked destined for the red carpet or even a music video.
We saw a nod to the power dressing and “woman in charge” theme again through the use of body harnesses and artsy, skilful cuts. There were definitely pieces in the collection that showed the pure craftsmanship at Versace, and it let people know exactly the message it was portraying.
The strong punk, PVC clad theme also had the odd colour pop here and there with flashes of bright yellow. We personally adored the statement lapels on some of the jackets, with heavily embellished studs and pins; we think this is definitely a trend that can be delivered through to the high street.
