How to achieve the latest catwalk beauty trends
Here at The Upcoming we always look forward to that time of year full of treats, beauty, jewellery, self-indulgences and much more! Nope, we aren’t thinking about Christmas… we’re talking about Catwalk Season!
Kicking off in New York and making its way across the globe, they’ve provided us with a whole lease of new ideas that we can’t wait to try! The AW13/14 shows have provided more than just fashion inspiration. The key make-up looks caught our attention, seemingly prompting a battle of 60s femininity versus 90s grunge. We saw it going strong throughout the S/S’13 shows and grunge hasn’t gone anywhere!
To achieve that 90s grunge look, think last night’s make-up! Smudged, blurred and a bit disheveled! The exaggerated dark combo is still going strong. From smoky, heavily lined and earthy, bruise toned eyes to crimson red or deep berry lips. As seen on Prada, Fendi and Marni.
Then in the other corner we’ve got the glamorous doll-faced beauties of the 60s. Think layered lashes, feline flicks and delicately blushed cheeks.
We’ve done the hard work for you though and we’ve selected a few products to perfect this look at home yourself!
1.MAC in Russian Red £14
2.MAC (Archie’s Girls) Limited Edition in Boyfriend Stealer
3.Bobby Brown in Black Raspberry
Maxfactor False Lash Effect Mascara in Black £10.99:
A firm favourite in the 60s first time round and still going strong now, Maxfactor have our vote when it comes to achieving those perfect flutter-ready lashes!
Eyeliner features heavily in both trends: for 90s grunge, opt for a kohl pencil liner as they are easier to smudge in order to achieve that effortless look; while for a feline 60s-inspired flick, we suggest using a liquid eyeliner.
Bourjious Eye Liner Pinceau in Noir £6.99:
Perfect for precision and an all-round good liquid eyeliner.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero Black £14:
Super soft and ever so blendable, plus it does as it says and will stay put for 24 hours!
This palette by Urban Decay titled Naked for £36 is always our staple go to; its selection of tones is absolutely perfect for any take on the smoky eye or neutrals to match that immaculate base.
Lastly, these products will help you achieve that flawless Matte Complexion.
NARS Sheer Matte Finish Foundation £30.50:
Oil-free, soft matte finish and buildable coverage.
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Power £ 3.99:
We believe it does the job just as well as any other: perfect to keep in your bag for any last minute touch ups!
