PFW – Elie Saab A/W 2013 collection
Strong, fierce and elegant are the three most accurate words to describe Elie Saab’s A/W 2013 collection, showcased during Paris Fashion Week. The designer, known for his glamorous, red carpet gowns, presented an expectedly elegant collection with a very different twist.
The theme of androgyny ran throughout the show. In this collection, Saab manages to make powerful, tailored looks seem light and feminine. Tuxedo jackets, jumpsuits and sharply cinched in waists are met with sheer fabrics, delicate embroidery and flowing capes to reveal the femininity that Elie Saab is praised for.
The show itself moved from powerfully dark, masculine looks towards lace, embroidery and colour. However, do not be fooled into thinking that these more feminine looks are in anyway similar to Saab’s previous collections. Hot pants under sheer skirts, plunging necklines and revealing slits provide this A/W collection with the daring edge that sets it apart.
A combination of sleek daywear and sensual evening gowns proves that Saab has managed to create a genuinely wearable collection without disregarding his trademark embellishment. Elie Saab has depicted the ultimate powerful female in this show, whilst reiterating that he is the master in his field of feminine decoration.
