PFW – John Galliano A/W 2013 collection
At Paris Fashion Week John Galliano’s creative director, Bill Gaytten, finally made the label his own. What was once regal style silk dresses with dashes of canary yellow, deep red, sea green and candy pink, complete with trimmings of lace and tulle, has now become dark, brooding and oddly minimalistic.
On 3rd March, Gaytten presented the John Galliano A/W 2013 collection at Le Centorial, featuring high necklines, cropped trousers and woollen calf-length coats. The colour palette was suited to the season, with cobalt, black, heavy purple and various shades of grey taking prominence. Suited for the business orientated, the opening look was stunning, with a deep purple pleated suit accompanied by a wide black belt.
Amongst the outerwear collection, there was a fitted navy dress alongside a knitted grey shrug, which complemented the crushed black velvet skirt it was paired with.
However, The Upcoming’s favourite part of the collection were the evening gowns, which featured a shimmering blue cocktail dress, a silky black floor-length number with hints of red and a slimming crushed black velvet gown. If there was one word to describe this ready-to-wear collection, it would be unique, and it’s ideal if you fancy gaining compliments without looking like you tried too hard.
However, when looking at the accessories, models sported dark coloured ankle boots and black leather gloves, ensuring not an inch of skin was showing. When not covered by a peaked cap by milliner Stephen Jones, the hair was sleek and neatly tied back from the face. Make-up was minimal, apart from the black eye-shadow which covered lids to brows.
Overall, a sweetly simple collection from a usually beautiful outlandish label.
