Boe Suits: onesies with a difference
Onesies have been a massive craze over the past year. At Christmas most retailers had sold out. If you want a onesie but don’t want to be the same as everyone else you may want to consider Boe Suits.
Emma Wreyford is the owner of Boe Suits, which she founded in 2007. She started as a performer but eventually went into costume design. Her mother made her own clothes so she learned by osmosis. Occasionally Emma makes bespoke costumes for theatre and television, but as she’s now a mum her priorities have shifted. Emma and her friends were getting jealous of their children’s all in onesies and they wanted playsuits of their own to lounge around in. This led Emma to design stylish, adult “lounging suits” to make lives more comfortable.
The suits are made from recycled plastic bottles and wherever possible they source the cotton jersey in Europe. What makes these suits so different is the way they are shaped. “Most onesies on the market have elasticated wrists and ankles, but they often end up looking like cheap tracksuits. I want the wearer to feel as attractive as they can whilst covered in one block of fabrics – so Boes are cut wide at the neck to show skin, the long straight arms and legs give lengthening lines to the body and the loose cut around the middle is forgiving around the tummy.” What’s great is that Emma offers her original Boes in a variety of colours.
If you want something a little bit funky though, Boe Suits do have a cream or grey suit with ears and a tail. What sets Boe Suits truly apart from other onesie retailers is that Emma caters for new mums. “During my pregnancy I couldn’t stand having anything around my tummy, so I made myself a few jumpsuits. Now I’m breastfeeding I couldn’t be without one of these ‘Mama’ all-in-ones.” The Mama all-in-ones are tied at the side so that they can be loosened if you are having skin-to-skin feeding and it can be adjusted as your bump grows. Expecting mums will love this for lounging around the house in, especially during the later weeks of their pregnancy.
So, even though everyone has onesies, these all-in-ones from Boe Suits will make you stand out from the crowd. At least when you’re sat around the house in your all-in-one you won’t feel a bit stupid, unlike when you wear a leopard print one, with feet in and your tail keeps getting in the way.
