Lulu Kennedy: plans to expand Lulu & Co
The Fashion East founder Lulu Kennedy has recently revealed her plans of opening a store to solely house her own label, Lulu & Co. The brand consists of limited edition edits and of course what Kennedy is known for, eclectic collaborations with London’s best emerging designers, such as Claire Burrow.
“In my dreams, it would be in a refurbished pub that still had a working bar, and some resident fluffy baby pets for customers to play with. As well as our range, I would stock my amazing Fashion East designers and do special projects with friends. I have a way to go, but as Walt Disney said ‘If you can dream it you can do it!’ “
Lulu & Co initially launched the project with 10 iconic dresses by ten designers from the Fashion East collective. This debut collection launch coexisted with Fashion East’s 10th birthday in 2010, celebrating London’s executional design talent.
The brand has now reached its seventh collection and in doing so has collaborated with menswear designer Bobby Abley. Last June, Kennedy supported Abley at the Fashion East’s menswear installations: “I fell for his aesthetic at first sight – it’s super-cute and friendly – just like him.” Kennedy describes the collection as cosmic, optimistic, wearable and fun. They wanted to make a collection that was easy to wear and could be combined with your current wardrobe items. Abley, who is originally from Scarborough and studied at the Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, previously worked for the likes of Alexander McQueen and is commonly known for his signature cartoon-inspired prints. Kennedy and Abley are two of a kind, both having faith that the future holds fun and creating nostalgia with their work in the hope it takes people to a happy place: Adults are only grown up kids, after all!
