Wash and Glow: our guide to the latest and most desirable hair products
Our crowning glory can often be our worst nightmare, as we’re all prone to the odd bad hair day. Follow our guide to the latest and most desirable hair products to ensure the bed head look is a thing of the past.
Any hair-care routine should start with a great shampoo – often ignored, the shampoo twice instructions on the bottle really do need following. Wash once to clean, twice to put the shine back! Avoid piling your hair up on top of your head and rubbing vigorously, as this is only going to lead to tangles (and tears!), simply shampoo the scalp thoroughly, massage firmly with the pads of your fingers and allow the suds to flow through the lengths of your hair as you rinse.
Our favourite is Percy and Reed really rather radiant colour and shine shampoo, £14. Its blend of raspberry oil and pro vitamin B5 strengthens whilst restoring shine and shimmer to your style. Promising to “give your hair more depth and gloss than an A-lister on Oscar night”.
Conditioning is a stage that should never be skipped, even the oiliest of hair types need moisture, you wouldn’t cleanse your face without moisturising, would you? Apply conditioner from mid lengths to the ends of your hair, leaving for a couple of minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
The cream of our crops is Phillip B Oud royal forever shine conditioner, £20. An innovation in hair care, with time-released botanical hydrators and natural Safflower Oleosomes, you’re guaranteed a glossy shine that lasts for days.
No beauty junkie or wannabe hair idol should skip their weekly hair mask, boosting hydration levels, manageability and shine. To maximise the benefits, apply your chosen hair mask, cover your head with a pre-warmed towel, then slather on a face mask and relax for ten minutes before rinsing. Percy and Reed totally TLC hydrating mask, £20, is perfect for this, it even comes with a handy bonnet to keep the heat in and boost the treatment.
It is often said, only a bad worker blames his tools, a total myth in the world of hair styling, there’s no point investing time and money in achieving a glossy style if you’re then going to fry it with poor quality tools. You simply cannot go wrong with a pair of ghds, which stands for good hair day for a reason. Creating volume, shine, the perfect curl or a sleek straight style at the flick of a switch, the ceramic heat technology will not pull on or damage the hair, gliding effortlessly through any length or style.
We love the new ghd candy collection, inspired by retro sweets and the S/S’13 catwalk shades of mint, yellow and violet. Unable to decide between the gorgeous colours, would it be wrong to buy all three? We think not! Priced at £110 each, they may be a considered purchase, seek reassurance in the fact that the ghds are chosen by all reputable hair stylists, see them as an investment purchase.
