Zac Posen collaborates with Magnum
In 2011 Karl Lagerfeld directed a series of three short films starring Rachel Bilson and Baptiste Giabiconi. “What was his inspiration?” we hear you ask, and the answer is this: the luxury ice-cream company, Magnum. However, Chanel’s creative director isn’t the only one to have been influenced by the frozen dessert brand, as – two years on – Zac Posen has become the latest fashion designer to also collaborate with the popular ice-cream makers.
Although food and fashion can be seen as polar opposites Posen has created a 24-carat gold dress in honour of Magnum’s new Gold?! ice cream (yes, the punctuation is supposed to be there). Consisting of vanilla bean cream with swirls of caramel sea salt, Magnum Gold?! has been dipped in a gold coating made with Belgian milk chocolate.
As the world’s first golden ice-cream bar, Posen’s first ever dress of this magnitude features more than 10,000 24-carat sequins, which were hand-crafted from 24-carat gold sheets. Commenting that he “pulled inspiration from Magnum Gold?!” (as the dress reminded him of “melting ice cream” and indulgence), the gown is beautiful, emphasising the feminine form with its sweetheart neckline and mermaid cut train.
Valued at $1.5 million (£999,000), the gown is to be unveiled in a short film at the Tribeca Film Festival on 18th April. Directed by Emmy award-winning Jon Cassar, the film, titled As Good As Gold, stars Magic Mike actor Joe Manganiello and stage model Caroline Correa.
Details of the dress, such as its intricate design and crafting, will be announced following the gown’s debut at the festival. A behind-the-scenes look at Posen’s design process will also soon be available on Magnum’s Facebook page, which can be found here.
However, if, like the majority of us, you can’t afford Posen’s gown, you can still be regal and striking by considering Dior’s 24-carat gold temporary tattoos. Reasonably priced, these intricate pseudo tattoos are available here.
Happy eating!
