Press Day: Topshop Unique autumn/winter 2013
The Topshop Unique autumn/winter 2013 collection was showcased recently and The Upcoming went along to get up close and personal.
The first thing that jumped out about the collection is that it seems to have an almost split personality in terms of colour. Black, red and also purple make a loud statement, but looking pass this you see pale pink, brown and even yellow. It’s not only the colours that are varied.
The collection is really challenging our idea of fabrics and encouraging us to mix it up a bit. PVC skirts have been teamed with a woolen jumper and sequins matched up with fur. This all works though as long as you keep your patterns or colours similar.
There’s no need to simply be in one colour or pattern, but you do need to stick to a tonal range or you will look like you got dressed in the dark. Black, red and white are a key colour combination, but the pastels from this season are also still around but with a more wintery twist.
Bags and shoes are back with a vengeance too, matching up and having colours and textures galore. If you’re not brave enough for bright colours or a daring texture all over, why not accessorise? A black outfit could be brought bang up to date with a pair of red snakeskin shoes and a matching bag. This is also an excellent way to stay on trend, but save a bit of money.
So if you’re into racy red PVC, or softer “baby spice” pink sequins, Topshop Unique will have something for you next season!
