Glow Time or Dream Tint? Discovering Jane Iredale Mineral Make-up
Created in 1994, Iredale Mineral Cosmetics has been able to steadily grow its roots in the local community of the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts (US), expand internationally and remain strongly committed to the environment all at the same time.
Jane Iredale is now present in more than 40 countries and its goal is to “provide a product line that has the utmost integrity and the ability to enhance the lives of women through its effectiveness, simplicity, and beauty”.
The company’s first product was the Amazing Base, a loose mineral powder with no fillers and no skin sensitisers. What followed was a full range of face, eye, cheek, and lip products, all of which did not contain any synthetic fragrances, dyes or preservatives.
In hope of seeing our skin glow, we decided to go to Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where the company has its headquarters. We made an appointment at Face Haven (a make-up store that, for the past five years, has been specialising exclusively in Jane Iredale products) and met with owner Sherie Ross and aesthetician Emily Port. Emily gracefully, patiently, and skilfully guided us through the process of finding the “perfect” foundation.
The first product we wanted to try was Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream. In order to use a minimum quantity of the product and obtain maximum ease in spreadability, Emily first rubbed on some of the Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener. Do you really need this primer? Yes, you do. It feels great and refreshing on the skin, and it truly makes a difference.
After the primer, Emily proceeded to use a tiny amount of the Glow Time BB Cream, which spread easily and beautifully. Both creams are heat activated and can be smoothed over the skin with just the fingertips: so simple; no extra tools needed. We really liked that.
The final result was good and acceptable. We each have a unique complexion and chemistry, and when choosing make-up for ourselves direct experience becomes truly necessary. Our pores and eyes are our best friends and they will help us decide what products are best for us in the end.
We also tried the multi-tasking Dream Tint, a tinted moisturiser. In order to fully experience the difference between the two products, Emily washed off only half of the face and smoothed the tinted moisturiser over it: the two sides looked and felt very different.
The Glow Time BB Cream provides more coverage and feels like a more traditional foundation; the Dream Tint feels weightless and brings out the natural shine of your skin.
With an added touch of the Pure Pressed Blush and some gorgeous, glossy, lasting Lip Fixation stain, we walked out of Face Haven ready to… well… ready to “face” the world!
