Bo Bruce at The Social

Bo Bruce at The Social | Live review

Many will recognise 27-year-old singer Bo Bruce for her appearance on The Voice last year, when she impressed judges Will.I.Am and Tom Jones with her refreshingly unique take on David Guetta’s Without You. But runner-up Lady Catherine Anna Brudenell-Bruce has come a long way since her days as Danny O’Donoghue’s protégé, and is now on tour celebrating the upcoming release of her debut album Before I Sleep.

The setting for the gig at The Social was charmingly beautiful, with a verdant backdrop and dazzling lights adorning the stage. Show opener Gary Nock enchanted the crowd with acoustic guitar music before introducing Bruce, who began her performance with Landslide. Her magical aura and breathy vocals immediately captivated the audience as she held them in her gaze. She has been compared vocally with both The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan and Dido – and the similarity is immediately apparent.

The singer introduced her debut single Save Me, due for release on 29th April, which moved the crowd and sounded even better live than it does on record. One crowd member commented she felt she was “watching a star being born” and others agreed it was a privilege to be up close and personal to the performer at this intimate concert. Bruce went on to perform her next single Alive, co-written with The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue, which was received well, and Lightkeeper got the crowd emotional with its moving lyrics, causing a few to shed tears. But it was the performance of How We’re Made which really blew the audience away, Bruce’s delightful vocals eliciting a fantastic response.

It would be foolish not to recommend seeing Bo Bruce live – catch her playing an intimate gig while you still can!
