Tom Binns and Charlotte Olympia collaborate on a punk-themed collection
Jewellery designer Tom Binns has paired up with super stylish shoe designer Charlotte Olympia on an edgy new collection specifically to celebrate the Costume Institute Gala in NYC this summer. The 2013 summer exhibition, held by the Metropolitan Museum in New York, has been entitled Punk: Chaos to Couture and opens on 9th May. However, fear not, as these feminine yet rebellious shoes and accessories will be available this week!
From 2nd May, this six-piece collection will be available online and from Charlotte Olympia shops in Mayfair and Manhattan. Time to get very excited about all the safety pins, platforms, Perspex and the glorious array of metallic, neon and sultry black. The mirrored platform heel, so-called “Dolly Riot”, costs $1,490 and is littered with gold and silver safety pins. The already well-known “Kitty” pumps by Charlotte Olympia have been given a punk revamp by way of neon and pin decoration, costing $813. Her “Pandora” clutch also received the anarchist makeover treatment from Tom Binns, and costs $1,334.
A press release explained: “The collection encapsulates Charlotte Olympia’s sense of femininity, glamour and humour together with Tom Binn’s signature anarchistic style…” We absolutely agree with this statement, and cannot wait to see what else is being created for the exhibition.
The Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition will also feature work from Calvin Klein, Burberry, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Moschino, Prada, Vivienne Westwood and many more iconic fashion houses.
