The Future of Fashion Young Designers 2013 are announced

The winners of the WHO’S NEXT Prêt-à-Porter Paris x ARTS THREAD competition, the Future of Fashion Young Designers 2013 have been announced. On Wednesday, The Upcoming went to the glass rooftop of the Boundary in London to see the winning designs.pret030

The competition is open to graduates from across the world and the winners were handpicked from a top-level jury made up of fashion industry experts. Amongst the panel was Phillippe Corbin founder and designer of Leon & Harper, Helen Hanum from Fenwick, Bruno Collins editor-in-chief at WAD, Dazed & Confused’s features editor Dean Mayo Davies and Hannah White Publisher of Fashion Monitor.pret025

The winning designers will have their collections shown at WHO’S NEXT Prêt-à-Porter Paris in July, which is the largest trade show in Europe. Not only will the winners have their designs shown, but they will also be given expert monitoring and guidance to assist them in getting to the next level on their career paths.pret017

Pavla Aleksic – University of Zagreb, Croatia

Madeline Gruen – Pratt Institute, USA

Lucy Downes – Arts University, Bournemouth, UK

Laura Juslin, Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture, Finland

Katja Sobol – Academy of Fine Arts and Design Maastrict (ABKM), The Netherlands

Caterina Belluardo – Cordwainers, London College of Fashion, UK

Asta Grigaityte – Vilnius Academy of Arts, Lithuania

Alex Sims – Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australiapret001

All of the designs were amazing and well worth their status as winners. From camel coloured waterfall coats to playful childlike jewellery, there was certainly something for everyone. It was great to see that there wasn’t just a sea of womenswear either; menswear, shoes and jewellery were all represented, giving an excellent encompassing mix.
