Wasted Heroes: Fascinating menswear

It is quite common for menswear to be overlooked and to not necessarily be considered interesting to women. However, at Wasted Heroes you can’t help but like the designs on offer.

Wasted Heroes is a label that was started by Russell Reid in 2009. Russell was introduced to the work of Andy Warhol and this led to a desire to work in screen-printing. He is the main designer for one of Liverpool’s prominent club nights Circus, as well as having done a long stint at its sister event Chibuku Shake Shake.  Russell wasn’t able to find a studio where he could learn the basics so he jumped in at the deep end by buying a screen-printing carousel so that he could teach himself. The brand name ‘Wasted Heroes’ came about after writing down 50 interesting random words, put them in a hat and fate brought out the brand name.

Wasted Heroes is a fresh alternative T-shirt label and consistently produced bold, confident prints that are achieved by exploring elements of illustration and montage. The prints that Russell creates on his T-shirts are amazing and the detail on them is outstanding. For example, this sparrow scoop tee has a print that looks like it could be a tattoo. On some of the prints you can see how Russell is inspired by Warhol. This droplet face scoop tee is just as effective on the woman’s T-shirt. It’s hard to pick a favourite out of the collection because they’re all so great.

Russell told us that he loves the world of collage, pop art and op art and is inspired by artists such as Richard Hamilton, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and Victor Vasarley, to name a few; his work is also heavily influenced by music and visiting galleries, libraries and lots of new places.
