Celebrity drag queen trio DWV become the new faces of OCC cosmetics’ latest campaign
Probably some of the most famous drag queens of our generation, the celebrity trio DWV have taken the world by storm. Since their parody video response to the Chick-Fil-A gay marriage controversy last year, they have been approached by vegan cosmetics brand OCC to front their first campaign.
OCC cosmetics founder David Klasfeld is the man behind this bold statement. “They’re the most amazing group of people we could ever hope for to represent the brand. They’re everything we’re about. They’re fun, they love make up, they’re socially conscious.” The trio make their debut on the “Lip Tar and Nail Duo” packs available from Sephora for $22.50.
According to Klasfeld, aspiring make-up trends start with the drag queen community, and then filter through to celebrities in a diluted form via make-up artists, meaning OCC’s choice of models could be considered a very tactical one. In addition to this, it is becoming increasingly important for beauty and fashion campaigns to seek out diversity, and to promote individuality and self-confidence. DWV encourage the use of colour and bravery in terms of make-up. It’s worth experimenting and having fun with make-up as it just washes off.
OCC Cosmetics have raised the bar as a company in terms of make-up morals. OCC not only avoid animal testing, but have pledged never to use animal-derived ingredients in their products. Regardless of the ethical benefits of this choice, OCC products are therefore less likely to induce allergic reaction thanks to their carefully chosen palette of ingredients.
