Joanne McGillivray: one to watch
Beginning a fashion career by winning the prestigious title of Graduate of the Year at the 2012 Scottish Fashion Awards is always a good indication that a designer should be added to the list of “ones to watch”.
For Joanne McGillivray, however, this is merely the start to her accreditations. Having obtained a six-week internship working alongside M&S’ Limited Range head of design, she has also managed to get her own dress design across the stores this summer, as well as designing for two London Fashion Week shows, working for London designer Kinder Aggugini and even making a hand-made tutu for Aggugini’s English National Ballet. In fact, the tutu was so sought-after that it is even set to be sold at auction.
However, her incredible CV doesn’t stop there – she has also worked in Selfridge’s Personal Shopping department, meaning she clearly has an eye for design.
Unsurprisingly, therefore, her debut collection is not one to miss. With fashion fads taking a back seat, McGillivray’s collection surpasses trends, and focuses on designs that can be worn all-year round.
The collection is wearable, yet fun. With an array of textures – from leathers to silks – McGillivray’s designs are highly stylish and individual. With a high-end classical feel, the use of asymmetric prints and an organic autumn colour palette certainly doesn’t leave you dreading the upcoming A/W season.
