1769 Adam Street in Covent Garden opens a haven of exclusivity
In a city such as London where the office hours are stretched well beyond nine to five, a place to do business and enjoy a little downtime is in high demand. Cue 1769 Adam Street, the newly launched private members’ club on the Strand near Covent Garden. The place has everything you love about a club, with none of the endless queues and hordes of partygoers blocking your way to the bar. Aimed at a slightly older crowd, the exclusive club offers clients a restaurant, a bar, a quiet nook called The Snug and their newest addition, the Rehearsal Room.
Once a vault built in 1769, the Rehearsal Room is three floors underground, and becomes a self-sustaining club with its own bar, DJ booth and amenities. It can also pack in quite a few people comfortably, with the number reaching roughly 80. The feel of the room is cosy but well designed to allow the dancers space to move while offering ample opportunities for those who want to sit. The red leather couches and moody lighting give the place old-world glamour, and the staff continue the theme in their black waistcoats and bowler hats. The bartenders are charming and fastidiously kept the drinks flowing last night, particularly with one barkeep’s own concoction of a gin punch. He couldn’t say what was in it, but it was a fruity, refreshing drink and seemed to be a hit, served in dainty teacups.
Also making an appearance was new cookie brand Ken & Jesse’s, a company that bakes bespoke biscuits onsite and they did just that at 1769. Using their portable mini oven, the team churned out freshly baked peanut butter, white chocolate and chocolate chip cookies all night – a welcome sugar boost for the partygoers.
1769 Adam Street is aimed at those who like to work hard and play even harder. It is the type of place you could stop off after work for a quick drink and a meeting, or even an all-night party. Any of the rooms can be rented but the Rehearsal Room is perfect for a dinner and drinks occasion. A membership fee is required, and only divulged on request, but it does ensure that you always have a locale in which to relax after a tough day at the office. If you are tired of the crowds of London clubs and exclusivity is what you’re after, then 1769 Adam Street is definitely one for the little black book.
