The Nail Art 2013 Festival comes to London

Not all festivals have to be muddy and messy. The Nail Art 2013 Festival, the first of its kind to be held in London, was a girly pampering session with lots of unique styles and tips. The festival buzzed with excitement and enthusiasm as people gathered around and waited to get their nails painted for free.

It had taken place in Ilford’s busy Exchange Centre to celebrate colour, design, texture and bling, and to highlight the beauty and significance of nail art. We often forget about those little nails, but this festival constantly reminded us our nails are small accessories, which can be altered to suit our moods and personalities.

Cutting edge and gritty, urban nail art have recently hit the shelves, and this festival was bang on trend with all the latest designs and polishes. Defining the trends for this summer season, the festival set out the dos and don’ts for 2013 nail art styles and designs.

Dedicated purely to nail art, the event was a rare and quite an honourable opportunity to view the backstage and behind the scene artwork of Lady Gaga’s and Kate Moss’ nails. Outrageous, creative and absolutely unique, these designs were held in glass showcases as people lingered around them.

Leading designers, Marian Newman and Sam Biddle, held 30 minute workshops to show us the tricks of the trade with demonstrations and examples. It was the perfect opportunity to learn how to do those tricky nail arts that we often see in magazines and on celebrities.

Not only is nail art a popular must have, but it is also a way to express ourselves through creativity and designs. As Sam Biddle had mentioned, our nails are almost like a small canvas to make a bold and big statement on. The Nail Art Festival certainly made it clear that our ten fingernails are the best accessories we could have.
