Trend alert: Chanel’s nail rings
Hand jewellery has turned into a bit of a research project for us here at The Upcoming, as the realm of possibility grows in leaps and bounds. From hand harnesses to hand cuffs and now, nail rings?!
Nail rings have emerged from the likes of Chanel, Asos and Holly & Hannah, as well as cropping up on the high street, on eBay and on Etsy. Our question is, what on earth is going to come next? Nail piercings? Knuckle caps perhaps?
There’s no denying that these new jewellery inventions are popular and ooze a bit of that oh-so-desired-for edginess, but are they here to stay? Or are they the sort of trend that will be shunned in five years, but brought back from the dead in 15? Who remembers when bindis went from cool to uncool then back to cool again faster than you could sing Cool by bindi lover Gwen Stefani?
Whether they’re here to stay or not, they are undeniably rock & roll. What with androgyny and punk all ready to step into the A/W’13 lookbook, the more vicious-looking bling you adorn your hands with, the better. So go on girl, get that manus metal on with a pair of killer boots and a mini tux, then you’re good to go. Failing that, the feminine tuxedo with a smoky eye never fails…
