Strozyna’s Signature frocks shine at Wolf & Badger, Dover Street

We were really excited to attend the launch for Polish designer Krystof Strozyna’s Signature 2013 collection in Mayfair, in which he recreated a selection of his designs dating back to 2007.

Strozyna is well known on the international fashion circuit, but he hasn’t become a household name – unlike the women he has dressed, who include Cheryl Cole, Natalia Vodianova and Ellie Goulding. He graduated from Central St. Martins in 2007, after which he was immediately snapped up by Harrods, and so began his rise to fame.

He is known for his graphic, structured tailoring, unusual accessories and varied influences, ranging from sculpture to art nouveau. In his A/W12 collection he cited the discord between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, illustrated with opposing colour palettes, floaty fabrics, solid panels and diagonal lines.

His latest work did not disappoint. It was primarily a mixture of citrus bright, black and nude dresses that were highly versatile and wearable – they were simple yet the zips, folds, curves and angles eliminated the need for accessorising. He also had in interesting display of cuffs and collars to match the dresses, adding variety without overdoing it.

There was a minimalistic, slightly clinical air about the collection, contrasting beautifully with the sunny colours. The dresses were reflective of his trademark use of heavy structure – they were almost muscular, yet the fabric was smooth and flawless. They worked in complete harmony with the body; accentuating and taking into account every bone and curve – as if model and garment had been moulded together. 

On the whole, this is a highly successful collection.  If you want an investment piece that’s simple yet highly effective at catching a few glances, then Krystof Strozyna’s your man.
