Fun and fashionable pieces by Rascal Clothing
With support from Sir Tom Jones and Leah McFall, Rascal Clothing looks set to take the world by storm. It seems like nothing can hold this brand down and we caught up with the man behind it – Jack Allen– to find out more.
What’s the idea behind Rascal Clothing?
A kind of “this is England meets the modern day”. We’re different because we were born out of the mind of a London College of Fashion student who’s from the North – a very strange combination as most northerners are in the trade business – it goes against the norm if you will. We appeal to everyone, yet we’re unique and constantly improving.
How important is an education to work in fashion?
I would say it’s really important. I’m a recent graduate so I feel that the experiences and education that I have gained throughout the years have helped me to develop as a “fashionista” if you like. Building contacts, meeting the right people, and generally learning new skills has been pivotal.
Any advice for those looking to break into the industry?
Be yourself, be nice and don’t be afraid! Challenge people, go against the norm, stand out and be creative!
What were your first thoughts when your brand began to take off?
I want to make something new and exciting that stood up to all the other new clothing brands, we have started rascal clothing enterprises and were looking at branching out into all different kinds of “rascal” fun.
When did you know what you wanted to do?
If I’m honest I never really wanted to be involved in fashion. I’m a late developer, but when the opportunity came my way I couldn’t say no.
What gets you inspired to design?
Music. My father’s a mod and that helped me somewhat in my vintage line but in particular in our second line! (a/w ’13)
Any favourite designs so far?
There’s a lot that I’m really proud of, but the stand out piece would be the men’s vintage patterned shirt.
Have there been any particular highlights so far?
Graduating, being a proud uncle, a budding entrepreneur and the support for the brand! The hard works is starting to pay off and it’s been mental!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
If I had to pick someone to work with, it would be either Miles Kane or Paul Weller, both artists but with fantastic style.
Where would you like to see your brand in a few years’ time?
We want shops all over the UK and Europe! We want to take Rascal as far as we possibly can and we already have contracts with modelling agencies, support from all over the world, and exciting plans for the future which mean that there’s nothing that can stand in our way!
