Young designer Pearl set to take the jewellery world by storm
Here at The Upcoming we’ve been keeping an eye on Pearly, the next big thing in high-end jewellery.
The brand was started by the designer Pearl Ng, who is inspired by the very British tradition of bespoke products; she captures this in her work with her intense attention to detail and quest for perfection.
Growing up in several different places, including Hong Kong, Sydney, San Francisco and New York, has informed her creative ideals and design perspective. This, coupled with a diverse education including the Rhode Island School of Design and the Gemology Institute of America, make for a recipe for success.
A self-confessed gemstone geek, she says on her website: “So much of what nature creates is already superb on its own, sometimes I feel like I’m just a messenger, refining and incorporating nature’s beauty and energies into people’s lives.” So she is definitely passionate about what she does, but do the pieces deliver? Yes, beautifully. They are a perfect mix of vintage aesthetics and modern design.
Many of them wouldn’t look out of place in an episode of Downton Abbey but would be equally at home teamed with a killer LBD or slouchy day dress.
They have a touch of the exotic about them, seen through the variety of precious stones used, including rose quartz, malachite and lapis lazuli.
Some of it is really original – the Mantra collection includes gold and silver bracelets twisted into words – and other pieces are much simpler, but are still timeless, stylish and feminine. What’s not to like?
