KMP Boutique: customised fashion with an edge
KMP Boutique has only really started to make an appearance in the last year or so, but the name is already creating waves in the fashion world. We spoke to Kelly to find out more about the customisation brand with attitude and how it feels to be worn by a member of The Wanted.
What’s the idea behind KMP Boutique?
To empower women with bold and edgy fashion that will make them “STAND OUT” from the crowd but which is also wearable in everyday life.
What sets you apart from everyone else?
I hand customise my items so with my beanies for example, the customer gets to decide the colour, style and studding. I personally find it hard to find unique, edgy clothing which is also versatile enough to wear in different social situations and that’s what KMP provides.
What made you decide to go into fashion?
Work takes up most of your time in life so you might as well do something you enjoy and for me that’s fashion. It doesn’t really feel like work because you get to be creative and have fun with it.
Any advice for anyone who wants to break into the industry?
My advice would be to focus on an area that you’re genuinely passionate about and that will show through in your work. Don’t be afraid to take a risk and start a new business venture!
What gets you inspired?
I’m inspired by lots of things including pop culture, sports (basketball especially) and ethnic cultures. I’m inspired by anyone who’s not afraid to stand out and who is creative and different with their style.
Do you think you’d ever branch out into clothing?
I currently have several clothing pieces in my collection which I will be growing and developing. I’ll also be designing my own KMP range soon so watch this space!
What would you say is your favourite piece so far?
So far my most iconic piece is the KMP customised studded beanie which Jay from The Wanted has recently been snapped wearing a lot! I personally love my square studded T’s as well as they reflect amazingly in the light and are a real statement piece.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I would love to work with Iggy Azalea as she embodies what KMP is all about – strong females who are not afraid to be different. I hear she also used to design a few things too so that would be cool!
Where do you see yourself and your brand in a few years time?
In a few years time I hope to have established KMP as a well-known, cool, independent label and to open an official KMP store where customers get to have a fun and quirky shopping experience.
