You’re Next: Interview with actress Sharni Vinson

Originally screened in 2011 at the Toronto International Film Festival & Fantastic Fest, the cinematic release of You’re Next has been a long time coming. The latest thriller/horror from director-writer duo Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett, You’re Next attempts to inject new life into the oft-deathly home invasion scenario.

Once again enlisting the acting services of AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg and Amy Seimetz, who all worked together on 2010 film A Horrible Way to Die, Wingard and Simon sought new blood when it came to casting the film’s leading role. The pair found it in Australian actress Sharni Vinson, who they cast as Erin, the disarming beauty with a secret past.

In You’re Next Vinson steps up from a street-dancing sweetheart in Step Up 3D, to a name-taking, ass-kicking badass who proves quite the handful for her would-be killers.

Sitting down with the charming Vinson ahead of the film’s UK premiere, set for later this month, The Upcoming inquired as to how a background in dance translated to action scenes, what the film star learnt from her capable heroine character ,and what still holds up about You’re Next, after being on the shelf for almost two years.
