Revolutionary new sunglasses take the internet by storm
We’ve all been there: you’re lounging by the pool or frolicking on the beach without a care in the world, next thing you know your prized designer sunnies have been squashed under your overly large beach bag. Tragedy. And that’s a hundred plus quid down the drain to boot.
Fortunately, 26-year-old Ali and Zoe have created a fine solution to the problem. They’ve come up with SunGod, a range of the most durable sunglasses you’ll probably find in your lifetime.
The pair began their venture via the website Indiegogo, a platform for people to promote their products and creations whilst raising money for charity or to get their projects underway. Their campaign reached its last twenty four hours earlier this week, and in a month they managed to raise over £82,000, massively surpassing their eight grand goal. And since they’ve passed the £60,000 mark, they’ll be donating some of their profits to Sightsavers, a charity helping the blind in third world countries.
So, back to the glasses. The lenses are made from polarised polycarbonate which is 100% UVA and UVB proof and fully scratch resistant – there are a whopping six layers of stuff between the sun and your precious peepers.
TR90 memory plastic makes up the frames, so you can bend them till your heart’s content and they’ll always bounce back to their original shape. AND they’re only £25 a pair.
We know what you’re thinking – how can something be this practical and still look stylish? Well, the good news is that they most definitely do. All made in the classic Wayfarer shape, they are fully customisable and come in basically any colour combination you could wish for– over 2,500 apparently. And yes, this does include everyone’s favourite tortoise shell.
So, it’s official. Functional, stylish sunglasses are not a pipe dream. Completely understandable if you don’t want to totally abandon your Ray Bans or your Pradas (granted the SunGods don’t have quite the same luxuriousness) but consider investing in some for the tail-end of the festival season – occasions involving alcohol, mud or expressive dancing are not the ideal environment for designer items – and you’ll never have to worry if they come into contact with your backside after one too many Kopparbergs. Plus, you’ll be helping a small business compete with all the mean corporate Bigwigs. Win-win situation!
