NYFW S/S’14 – Brian Lichtenberg: glamorous degenerates
For his spring 2014 presentation, Brian Lichtenberg broke all the rules.
His 13-look collection, while small in size, made up for the lack thereof with a big attitude. Rather than taking a handful of design concepts and spreading them amongst a typical 35-look collection, Lichtenberg presented 13 distinctively different looks, all utilising a variety of textures, silhouettes and patterned textiles.
Each look emanated an 80s rock band feel, with slick “wet” hair, smudged blue eye-shadow and bright red lips. These glamorous degenerates rocked fur vests, leather shorts, a turquoise graffiti print and transparent chiffon blouses. This might sound like a total disaster to fashion veterans, however, Lichtenberg managed to keep them from crossing the line of “costume” by leaving silhouettes primarily relaxed and casual, using tank tops, worn jeans, and t-shirts to foster this casual design.
This collection is sure to be a favourite of Rihanna’s and other urban trendsetters looking to add colour and edge to their style, particularly his track jackets and distressed denim shorts. Lichtenberg’s rebel aesthetic is sure to take us on several more interesting journeys in the following seasons.
