NYFW S/S’14 – Carmen Marc Valvo: summer of chic
Carmen Marc Valvo’s spring/summer 2014 collection is one of sophistication and modernity. Valvo’s already clean and geometric aesthetic is pumped up this season with transparent cut outs and almost mathematic beading, “creating the illusion of computer graphics”, he says.
The show began with body-conscious dresses for the beach and ultra-contemporary bathing suits. His suits are not the elaborate mono-kinis we saw last summer, but rather sporty and fresh. His palette, only black and white, further conveyed the texture and athletic lines that were found in every piece.
The second half of the show was made up of Valvo’s ever-gorgeous evening gowns. Through these dresses especially, one can see his experimentation with lines and geometric symmetry. Valvo also shook up this past summer’s transparency trend by keeping the fabric close to the body and in specific places (“scuba stripes” as he describes them), rather than the “flowy” and bohemian silhouettes we have seen recently.
This collection will be a go-to for sexy Miami socialites and chic metropolitans. A sure favourite will be the drop-waist gown with striped organza flounces. We look forward to seeing what Valvo has in store for next season.
