NYFW S/S’14 – Victoria, Victoria Beckham collection: no fuss simplicity
Opting for a presentation rather than catwalk show for her second clothing collection at New York Fashion Week, Victoria Beckham showed us what kaleidoscope dreams are made of. Victoria, Victoria Beckham, the playful younger sister to the eponymous main line was presented at Milk Studios, where her handsome husband was an attendee amongst various salespeople for moral support, of course.
As ever, the collection stayed true to the style that Victoria Beckham is known for – no fuss simplicity. Each look echoed sophistication, as vibrant colours, kaleidoscope motifs and laser cut flowers were all introduced. This collection saw less of the quirky novelty prints (mainly consisting of kittens) that we saw when the line first came about, but still managed to keep its youthful edge.
A range of silhouettes and construction shapes were also to be seen, indicating the designer’s shift from her basic A-line shapes that she is recognised for. A pleated frock made from a variety of shades of pinks and corals piqued our interest, while an edgier pleated dress incorporated the harness detailing from her main line. Shift dresses and drop waists were also a re-occurring aspect, infusing a 1920’s feature with a 1960’s favourite.
The collection in itself highlighted the reasons why we’re thankful to the fashion gods that Victoria Beckham left her singing days behind her, and became a designer. Her evident progress with regards to both fashion lines shows that she hasn’t even reached her full potential yet; and we’re beyond excited to see what else she has to offer.
