NYFW S/S’14 -Tommy Hilfiger collection: Hawaiian inspired
Tommy Hilfiger ensured there wasn’t a dull moment during his S/S’14 fashion show. Bright colour blocking, chic sport and casual wear and plenty of Hawaiian inspired flowers all stole the show.
The beach-esque catwalk was set with summery sand dunes and sprouting grass with props including surfboards and lifeguard chairs whilst familiar faces including Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls and up-and-coming model Malaika Firth all took to the runway.
A series of mini-dresses with leather panels were showcased, whilst silk shorts were paired with summer knits. Each and every colourful look had a certain character about it, and it wasn’t hard to picture a group of after school kids from Malibu sporting the looks, whilst chillin’ on the beach.
The basketball jersey trend from this summer has been carried through to next year, as the vests were worn as dresses, and silk trouser suits showed a slightly more serious side to the show. Zip skirts and trousers were worn unzipped and folded down, giving a casual vibe. Colourful neoprene paneling was added to skinny jeans, and silk shirts adorned with Hawaiian flowers added to the Malibu beach feeling.
According to the show notes, Hilfiger’s show was a celebration of an endless summer- a theme that was evident throughout. We especially loved the wetsuit element added to the garments; a twist that Hilfiger has interpreted and designed from a bubbling trend.
Overall, there was an Americana-beach style vibe that Hilfiger managed to convey, and with his use of bold colours, we’re certain that S/S’14 is sure to be fun-filled.
