NYFW S/S’14 – Nanette Lepore and her neo-romantic spring
Nanette Lepore remains true to her style with her spring/summer 2014 collection. Bold colours, floral prints and a lot of white, blush, aqua blue and poppy red brought true spring feeling to the catwalk.
Lepore’s influence this time is neo-romantic. The show opened under the sounds of The Cure’s Love Cats, with a lovely set comprised of a poppy top, blush stripe shorts and floral nylon satchel. Afterwards, the audience enjoyed long and short jumpsuits, maxi dresses with spaghetti straps, neutral laced pieces and bold corals. A red two-piece suit was gorgeously paired with a blue bag and sandals with thick red heels, and the swimsuit with the signature for the collection, floral print, captured the taste of eternal summer.
The overall feeling for the clothes was flirty, casual and fresh, and in the 27 looks there was something for everyone, from sheer dresses to leather tank tops combined with floral net skirts. However, there were no black pieces, so the lovers of the dark trend in fashion should look elsewhere.
The soundtrack of the collection was strictly 80s and after The Cure’s opening track, models walked under Tom Tom Club’s Genius of Love, Brenda Ray’s Please Be Mine Tonight, Carol Cool’s Upside Down and Pixies’ La la Love You.
Nanette Lepore is based in New York City and makes all her clothing and shoes in the USA. She also raises awareness and works with politicians on keeping jobs and production in NYC’s Garment District. Among the designer’s followers are Blake Lively, Sofia Vergara, Abigail Breslin, Arianna Huffington, Taylor Swift and Ashley Greene.
