NYFW S/S’14 – Ricardo Seco: sporty menswear
In Ricardo Seco’s spring/summer 2014 collection, the primarily menswear designer reinvented classics with lavish textiles. The track jacket especially, a hot item for next season across the board, was taken to another level with beautiful silk jacquards, brocades and hole-punched leather. Leather was also utilised in the men’s shorts, T-shirts and longer jackets.
This sporty collection was accessorised by sunglasses and backpacks, men’s hair was slicked back, and several looks were complemented by bright, New Balance running shoes. Seco stayed pretty close to typical menswear proportions; shirts and shorts remained relatively close to the body and at relevant lengths. However, he did experiment with oversized jackets and wide pant-legs that seemed to almost flutter down the runway.
The single womenswear look in the collection had its own royal blue, jacquard track jacket and leather shorts that were cut similarly to the men’s. Seco’s clothes are sure to be a hit next season with those men who enjoy taking risks with fashion in an easy and modern way.
