LFW – Hellen Van Reese S/S 2014 collection

Held in the grand Freemason’s Hall, the Dutch fashion and textile designer Hellen Van Rees displayed an exclusive preview of her SS14 collection, as part of London Fashion Week.

Each model stood still and expressionless wearing the classy garments and displaying number cards, as photographers snapped away continuously, and as guests sipped on their drinks and eyed their luxurious collection.

With a strong background of a continuous fashion education at Central Saint Martin’s and owning an independent fashion and textile label, Hellen Van Rees managed to inspire the bloggers, press and editors with her new collection.

Using the knowledge of her MA in womenswear fashion and her ever-growing expertise, Hellen had managed to cleverly and successfully combine contemporary and vintage fashion for her SS14 collection.

Beautifully crafted and using mostly black and white shades, Hellen added a unique touch of futurism and nostalgia to her designs. Using the silhouette of high hemlines, drop waists and pleats, there were hints of 1920s elegance and sophistication surrounding the outfits.

Nostalgia was combined with black and white shiny and sheer fabrics, and modern patterns of geometric shapes of squares and rectangles, which played the futurism aspect of her designs.

 

Hellen’s signature hand-woven tweed designs were also seen throughout all her outfits, which balanced well with the old and new theme. Using tweed is also a reinterpretation of old fashion mixed with the new.

Individuality and a sense contemporary elegance were strongly represented in the collection. A classic theme with a twist of modern glamour best sums up her innovative ideas.
