LFW – Mulberry S/S 2014 collection: a quintessentially English affair

Adorned with English roses, teacups and bulldogs, Mulberry displayed a very British love affair for Emma Hill’s final show.

With guests including fashion royalty Anna Wintour and brand ambassador Alexa Chung, the SS14 collection saw a look back at 60s London and quintessential country houses as the thoroughly English brand displayed their SS14 at the exclusive location of Claridges.

Decorated with daisies and astro turf, the show began with a crackled recording of Winston Churchill’s house announcing: “”This house we have built together, brick by brick, stone by stone, this house we call home…” before Madness with “Our House” began while the much adored Cara Delevingne strutted out in a 60s style silver jacquard coat.

The seasonal floral was reworked on embroidered raffia while signature favourites including pyjama suits, silk floral dresses, peacoats with heart lapels and flocked culottes made a comeback.

With crisp and clean styles in the seasonal colour of white, the catwalk unveiled the new “fab floral” print as well as a series of stripes in leather and suedes. Transcending from shoes to bags to clothes, the stripes are a staple of the collection, along with the new Kensal boxy shoulder bag, which comes in fiery reds and pavement greys. Named after Mulberry’s London roots, the velvet calf leather stands out against the white embossing of the spring/summer dresses and jumpsuits.

Covetable envelope clutches and Bayswaters with suede stripes were unveiled, as well as a Willow clutch which can turn very handily into a shoulder bag.

Hailed as her best collection to date, it is safe to say that Emma Hill will be exiting the brand tomorrow on a high.
