FURY: fierce luxury and architectural design
For anyone who’s looking for a pair of shoes that just scream “defiance”, FURY offers some stunning options. We caught up with Lisen Magnusson to find out more about the footwear brand with a sting in its tail.
What’s the idea behind your brand?
Lisen Magnusson: FURY by name, FURY by nature. We put our shoes at the heart of aggressive art with an on-going series of artistic experiments. For our first ever photo shoot we set fire to our STELLA platform, much to the dismay of women everywhere who thought we could have Photoshopped it instead. But we don’t like the idea of fake imagery, that’s just how we roll. In the future you can expect explosions, liquid nitrogen and even a sawn-off shotgun…
When did you decide you wanted to go into fashion?
I have always been creative but it became clear to me as soon as I started studying shoe design that this was the one for me. I like the element of restraint within shoe design – in making sure you can actually walk comfortably in the shoes – it is much more of a challenge I think than clothes design where you can pretty much do what you want. I have always been interested in architecture as well, and this is the perfect mix between the two disciplines.
What inspires you to design?
I take inspiration from anything and everything and I often find myself waking up with a finished design in my head, ready to sketch. Some recent sources of inspiration have been a Cat O´Nine tails that inspired our YLA sandal and a Triceratops inspired our TY court shoe.
Do you think you’d ever branch out into clothing or other accessories?
I’d love to add handbags, jewellery and even baby shoes to the line but first and foremost we are a shoe brand, and being so young we need to grow slowly but surely.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
It was fantastic to collaborate with Haizhen Wang for his A/W 13 catwalk show, and to close the London Fashion Week last February. I would love to collaborate with any designer whose collection complements mine. If done well, both collections are highlighted and generate double the exposure and impact. So let’s see!
Have you had any career highlights so far?
I would say getting requests from Jessie J and Gossip Girl within a few months of launching FURY would be up there with some of my favourite moments.
Where can we expect FURY to be in a few years?
We’ll hopefully be stocked in all the right boutiques and department stores in all of the major cities around the world. We are currently focusing on Russia and Saudi Arabia as potential new markets, but I’m thinking world domination!
