M.I.A confirms Versace collaboration
Sri Lankan singer and trendsetter M.I.A has confirmed the news that she is set to collaborate on a fashion venture with Versace.
Back in November last year, M.I.A came out with the claims that she was to work with the fashion giant Versace. Since then however, Versace has not made any confirmation about the deal, and it seemed that that venture was not going to go ahead.
Whilst recently attending Balenciaga’s Paris Fashion Week show, the singer confirmed that the previously discussed collaboration is very much going ahead, and told WWD that a collection will in fact be released in two weeks time.
It is understood that M.I.A’s collection is with the Italian brand’s sister label Versus. The label, which is currently led by J.W Anderson, is known to take on board guest designers, to bring forward their unique style.
Following the departure of Christopher Kane from Versus last year, Donatella Versace has been keen to take the sister label in a new direction, appointing guest designers, personalities or brands each season.
37-year-old M.I.A seems the perfect fit for a collaboration with Versus, as their bold signature style is right up the eccentric singer’s street. M.I.A is frequently photographed wearing Versace clothing, and is a regular in the front seat at the label’s catwalk shows.
M.I.A will be juggling the fashion collaboration with the forthcoming release of her long-awaited album Matangi, which is due to be released on 5th November.
