Lulu’s Estate Jewellery party at Ruski’s Caviar and Vodka Tavern
Lulu’s Estate Jewellery hosted a party on Thursday night at Ruski’s Caviar and Vodka Tavern. A night mingling amongst complimentary drinks and fine jewellery was incredibly luxe and might we say, the mojitos were divine!
Lulu’s collection includes vintage pieces dating back to the 1920s art deco to contemporary “must-haves” from the prestigious houses of Cartier, Tiffany, Bulgari and Rolex. Sourced from dealers, collectors and individuals, the pieces are not only unique, but also authenticated and refurbished to the highest standard. There were only two display cases of the stuff, and we hate to say it, but we really expected more. There are some launches that are about the product and the brand, and others about the socialites surrounding them. This was most definitely the latter.
The main event of the night was a seven-foot-tall conceptual drag artist, Pandamonia, laden in her signature latex and inflatable hair-do. The pop-artist has gone from party crasher to VIP within a matter of seasons and can be found at various fashion events around the city. In a recent interview with Stylist magazine, the artist stated: “It seemed evident to me that the best way to parody this world would be to create my very own celebrity. I created a truly artificial one, in the spirit of consumerist values. Slim, tall, glossy, forever young and, of course, famous.” He’s an artist whose sole purpose is mocking his very surroundings, yet he somehow has everyone fooled. Brilliant, if you ask us. It’s no coincidence the artist was present at such a gluttonous and indulgent event.
A Russian caviar and vodka bar amongst displays of exquisite diamonds seems hardly the place to make a statement on consumerism…but people loved it –desperately posing in photos with someone who blatantly opposes the very industry they’re celebrating. It was a huge ironic mess, but a fun night, nonetheless.
