Michael Kors supports UN’s World Food Programme
Top fashion house Michael Kors is set to once again team up with the United Nations World Food Programme to support the Watch Hunger Stop campaign, in a bid to tackle world hunger.
Michael Kors will be supporting World Food Day, which takes place on 16th October, giving away an array of Watch Hunger Stop t-shirts outside stores in New York, Berlin, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Rio de Janeiro.
The lucky few who manage to get their hands on a t-shirt will also get to have their picture taken in a photo booth, which will go on to be streamed on WatchHungerStop.com as well as on billboards in New York’s Times Square.
Alongside the t-shirt campaign, Michael Kors has also created a special-edition version of his new 100 Series watch. For every purchase of the special-edition watch, 100 hunger-stricken children from over 150 countries will receive a nutritious meal.
Speaking to Marie Claire about being part of the Watch Hunger Stop campaign, Michael said: “The response to Watch Hunger Stop has been amazing. We delivered one and a half million meals to children in less than six months, and we’ve only just begun. Our hope for World Food Day is to get people talking about hunger, and about the many ways that they can help address the problem. Donate, volunteer, talk, text, tweet – really everyone can be an ambassador.”
As well as the t-shirt campaign and special-edition watches, throughout October customers in Kors stores will be given the choice to add £5, £10 or £25 donations to the World Food Programme when making a purchase. On World Food Day, Michael will be hosting a charity dinner evening, where alongside Vogue’s Anna Wintour, he will be presenting the Michael Kors award for Outstanding Community Service to former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
