Oliver Spencer launches autumn/winter 2013 women’s wear collection

A distinctive mixture of traditional tailoring and more popular street wear styles, Oliver Spencer currently boasts several stores around the globe. His men’s wear designs have been spotted on music icons such as Paul Weller and The Rolling Stones, and his women’s wear capsule collection for autumn/winter 2013 looks set to be just as – if not even more – successful.

Inspired by the 20^th-century German artist Joseph Beuys, Spencer’s motivation came from his association with the Fluxus movement of the 1960s. The result is a collection that’s full of Spencer’s passionate craftsmanship and classic design aesthetic.

Passion and quality are themes that run strongly through both Spencer’s men’s wear and women’s wear collections, and he spends a good amount of time sourcing fabrics and buttons as well as overseeing the sewing process.

Over half of the line is made in the UK, but Spencer’s inspiration comes from all around the globe. The Willow shirt-dress, for example, is an homage to the designs of the Japanese kimonos and has been given an Eton collar in order to make it stand out.  The dress is indigo-dyed in order to create a denim effect, and comes in the “Birkhouse” fabric. When combined with the diamond patterning, the dress is a true statement piece for this season.

For those who are after a more classic look, the collection also features rounded feminine collars and black trimmings, but oversized buttons mean that each piece creates a bold and unique statement. Narrow, androgynous trousers that are fitted close to the body are also a big part of Spencer’s collection and are the perfect partner to loose fitting tops.

No matter what look you’re trying to achieve, Spencer’s passion comes through in every garment and his women’s wear collection boasts a distinct personality that allows it to stand up alongside his men’s wear line, and has us excited to see what he comes up with in the future.
