Karl Lagerfeld unveils Choupette-inspired accessories collection
Top fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has drawn inspiration from an unlikely source for his latest collection. The Chanel designer has created a capsule collection of cat-themed accessories inspired by his beloved pet Persian cat Choupette.
Lagerfeld’s new collection features an array of monochrome cat accessories, including scarves, gloves, handbags, key-chains, phone covers and tablet cases. Whilst the cat-shaped products seem to give a nod to Hello Kitty, Lagerfeld’s decision to keep his signature monochrome palette for the collection ensures his pieces remain sophisticated and appropriate for his classy clientele.
Over recent months, Lagerfeld’s pampered feline has managed to become somewhat of a star. As well as being the main inspiration for Lagerfeld’s new capsule collection, Choupette – a gift from Chanel model Baptiste Giabiconi – has her own Twitter and Instagram accounts, and has even appeared on the cover of German Vogue. Speaking of the feline, who allegedly has her own maids, Lagerfeld told CNN last year: “There is no marriage, yet, for human beings and animals… I never thought that I would fall in love like this with a cat.”
Lagerfeld’s holiday Choupette capsule collection will be available in Karl Lagerfeld stores in Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Beijing, Antwerp and Shanghai, from 12th November. Prices range from €45 for a knitted cat hat,to €340 for a leather cat-shaped shopper bag.
