Emma Cannon: back to the birds and the bees
Emma Cannon is a jack-of-all (baby-making) trades being a “fertility, pregnancy and integrated women’s health expert, registered acupuncturist and author”. With her talents not stopping there, Cannon’s approach on debatably the most precious things in life, your life and new life is delivered in an equally precious way.
Take away the clinical surgeries, the sterilised apparatus surrounding you, the dreaded waiting rooms, with magazines that were current around three years ago, and snivelling patients. The Fertility Rooms focus every last detail on you: welcoming you, warming you, and most importantly, listening to you.
With a Bachelor of Science from Westminster University, a first class honours in clinical work, being a member of the British Acupuncture Council, and also completing post-graduate training with The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, you can be sure that Cannon knows her stuff. Despite specialising in fertility, she also branches out to offer advice on pregnancy, pre-birth, post-partum and the menopause with it all evolving around the idea that “health is precious and needs preserving”.
The idea was to create an area in which people can feel relaxed enough to express their problems, fears and worries. She looks at the body as a whole, not just singeing down on the problematic part, advising on “nutrition, lifestyle issues, stress reduction, exercise, sex or the lack of it, as well as medical referrals to the appropriate specialists for medical issues”. She also expands the invitation to gay couples, single women and informing on male fertility.
The Fertility Rooms offers acupuncture, which is an effective solution for an array of problems, fertility advising on the best way to prepare yourself for pregnancy, having a healthy body while pregnant and also expanding to post-natal support. It also includes sub-fertility enhancing the environment in which the baby will inhabit and also increasing male fertility, and fertility preservation ensuring that the changes that our bodies go through are actually for the best.
The rooms also offer IVF support, understanding that it is a difficult thing to go through, giving advice on a wide variety of topics while pregnant and after the pregnancy, and finally midwifery, believing that a midwife isn’t just for the birth but should offer help throughout, and maintaining contact afterwards also.
With her articles being published in magazines such as Vogue, Tatler and Red, being asked to talk as an expert on radio, and also listed in Britain’s top 250 doctors, there ceases to be a lack of public interest surrounding Cannon; however, this has in no way affected the personal experience that a patient receives from the rooms.
Her unique approach to issues around fertility doesn’t just stop there. It understands what you are saying, and in a caring and nurturing way, so if that’s not first class treatment, then who knows what is.
