My Asho Market celebrates Black History Month
October is Black History Month and My Asho Market is celebrating.
Black History Month is where black history, culture and heritage are promoted in order to emphasise to all British citizens the positive contributions of black people to British society. It further aims to heighten the confidence and awareness of black people to their cultural heritage. Its origins lie in 1926 when Carter G Woodson, editor of the Journal of Negro History, established African-Caribbean celebrations in America. It was first established by Akyaaba Addai Sebbo and the Greater London Council in the UK in 1987, and has since grown to holding over 6,000 events nationwide.
My Asho Market is doing its bit to celebrate by launching the Icons Sweater adorned with the image of the first African to win the Nobel Prize for literature, Wole Soyinka. He is a man who has dedicated his life to fighting the injustices dictatorships have inflicted upon the people of Africa. The sweatshirt is being launched to highlight his outstanding work and further spread the word.
The Icons Sweater is part of the African Icons series that My Asho is currently selling on its website. The collection features gorgeous African prints and stunning jewellery that is clearly inspired by African culture. These Skinny Shakara Bangles are cute and the Hummingbird Maxi would be a great investment piece for next summer.
So, if you want to celebrate Black History Month, head to My Asho and invest in a piece of its African Icons series.
