Meadham Kirchhoff: the princes of kitsch hit Topshop again
The fantasy fashion-loving duo has released yet another collection for Topshop, and this time it’s bigger and more colourful than ever.
London-based label Meadham Kirchhoff have unveiled an 80-piece strong collection inspired by the designer duo’s dream girl band – The Cherrys [sic] – whose fictitious four members form the collection’s aesthetic. This fourth collaboration with Topshop still screams Meadham Kirchhoff, combining the label’s recent romantic dark side with the more sugary sweet whimsical looks of its S/S 2012 range.
“This collection for Topshop was inspired by the idea of a band or a gang which we named ‘The Cherrys’. The overall aesthetic was influenced by Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, Kembra Pfahler and glam rock,” the designers told The Telegraph. “It is an enormous and all-encompassing collection which will offer a myriad of choice for any customer to adapt or reject as they see fit.”
Designers Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff have created a range that combines so many conflicting elements, you really can image the pieces being designed for individual personalities. Homespun fabrics like the multi-coloured, hand-knitted, crochet jumper and dress clash with the Japanese Hime kei-style babydoll dress and PVC mac with matching sugary pink lace garter belts and stockings. Thigh-high black boots with gold star motifs and a rainbow-striped heel add another element to the imaginary band’s image, which plays with punk-esque colours red and black in faux fur and animal print jumpers.
Whether you’re a die-hard Meadham Kirchhoff fan or are just introducing their style into your wardrobe, this collection covers so many looks that you won’t have to jump right in and immerse yourself in clashing colours and frills. Simple wardrobe staples are included like the pink fluffy leopard print angora jumper, which would look great with a pair of washed-out jeans, or the lace detail camisole top, the perfect day to evening piece.
