Big trend predictions for 2014

Big trend predictions for 2014

Another year has come and gone, and while us regular people are looking forward to the new year and making some much-needed resolutions (cut back on the shortbread biscuits), the fashion world is already thinking about the next big fashion trend. As you all know, fashion has always moved a little faster than the rest of the world; while you’re wrapping up this winter in your best faux fur coat, designers and stores are already stocking their maxi dresses and swimsuits for S/S 2014. So in keeping with the fast-paced tradition of the fashion industry, The Upcoming gives you the big trend predictions for 2014.

African prints

This trend just screams colour, summer and life. You’re going to be seeing African prints everywhere over summer, we guarantee it. At carnivals and at the beach, at festivals and at the park, African prints are going to be a staple in the coming summer months. Already a favourite with stylish beauty Solange Knowles, African prints are the perfect addition to brighten up any wardrobe, and we’re already starting to stock up. Remember, summer is only a few months away.

Sequined jackets

These are what we like to call “treasures” and every girl should invest in one. They make any outfit sparkle and add instant glamour to your look. It’s a simply timeless item that’s already making its way into the catwalk shows and stores. If you can find a vintage jacket, even better. While many things in our wardrobe and style may come and go, we can assure you that sequined jackets are here to stay.

Figure-hugging dresses

We all have Kim Kardashian and Mad Men’s Joan to thank for these lovelies becoming so popular, and they’re the perfect models for them too. It reminds us of a time when society wanted to highlight the female figure in all its glory, no matter the size. Whether worn for work or for a party, we are very happy to see these dresses become popular again.

Statement jewellery collars

When we say statement jewellery collars, we mean really BIG. The bigger, the better. It’s about making a statement and showing off your jewellery. It needs to be the centre piece of the outfit. The best way to show off statement collar necklaces is to pair them with shirts, especially chiffon. But make sure your jewellery collar makes the right statement; think more Olivia Palermo chic and less Mr T.

So with the big trend predictions already set for the new year, you are now primed and ready to start 2014 with a fashionable bang.
