Top trends from 2013
This past year has been revolutionary in fashion. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and recite the biggest trends of 2013.
One of the biggest trends we saw this year was graphic print on the spring/summer 2013 catwalks. Go bold or go home, these detailed digital prints have been everywhere from the high-end designers to the high-street retailers. Holly Fulton was one of the key designers that seeded this trend onto the fashion scene, with her symmetric designs and bright colours.
The 60s called, they want their high-hemmed shift dresses back. The 60s made a strong comeback from the Moschino to Louis Vuitton shows: beehives, pastel colours and floral prints have all returned. Pants are out and dresses are in, styled with statement bangles and a pop of red.
Tartan was one of the biggest trends for A/W 2013: check, plaid and tartan were reintroduced with a punk edge on the Givenchy catwalk and were styled with black PVC and leather on the Versace runway. Retailers such as Zara went fully on-board with mixed materials and detailed textures, leather panels were incorporated into tartan coats, shirts and sweatshirts in keeping with this trend.
These were the biggest trends of the runway throughout 2013. Some of these looks were recycled through the decades and we’re excited to see what the new year brings.
