London Collections: Men – Domingo Rodriguez A/W 2014 presentation
Domingo Rodriguez received his masters at London College of Fashion and is showcasing at LC: M for his second consecutive year. Placed in the basement of The Hospital Club with fellow emerging street-wear talents, Rodriguez delivered a collection of edgy but wearable menswear for autumn/winter 2014.
The collection consisted of soft treated leather motorcycle jackets, cotton tees and a variety of knits in matted military hues of khaki, grey and bronze with hints of red detailing in select pieces. Zig-zag detailing and asymmetrical zips decorated the look in a very special way, while soft textures echoed throughout.
Highlights of the collection included a tee with a built-in vest and a leather sweatshirt. The tee was made nearly seamless with a continuous stretch of progressive cotton so soft the designer describes the piece as a “wearable hug”. The sweatshirt was complete with a leather-ribbed neck, taking a classic technique and turning it on its head with the use of an unconventional material.
Rodriguez’s collection was subtly edgy – almost like a cooler, far less “douche-ey” Diesel. It wasn’t too try-hard or in your face, but still conveyed a strong look that we think a lot of men will be able to relate to and interpret in their own way. We had a lovely chat with the designer and can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Liverpudlian.
