London Collections: Men – Joseph Turvey A/W 2014 presentation
Joseph Turvey is a London-based menswear designer who has demanded our attention with his signature illustrations and unconventional fabrications. Having graduated from London College of Fashion just two years ago, the designer already has a collaboration with high-street mogul River Island set to launch mid-February. Turvey’s innovative designs have captured the eyes of bloggers and buyers alike, deeming the fresh face “one to watch” for the past three seasons. It’s safe to say Joseph has cemented his spot with his autumn/winter 2014 collection. Showcased at the grand Radisson Hotel in the heart of Bloomsbury, A/W 2014 was appropriately titled CASH IN.
Joseph Turvey released a teaser video of his A/W 2014 collection, causing quite the buzz before the presentation. We went in with unreasonably high expectations and were surprisingly met with not an ounce of disappointment. Encapsulating elements of sportswear-luxe, the collection celebrates the relationship of hand and machine. Illustrations mixed with digital prints and hand embroidery made with ceramic threads created a vibrantly innovative aesthetic – colourful and textured throughout. A cheeky hint of pink (this season’s trending colour) was modestly featured, adding to the overall androgynous feel of the floral-rooted showcase. The femininity was balanced with traditional tailoring and incredibly sporty tube socks and trainers.
Speaking on his A/W 2014 collection, CASH IN, Joseph said: “This season I wanted to re-explore my previous collections and deconstruct each garment, technique and fabric to enable me to rework my signature themes into something more refined and representative of where the Joseph Turvey brand is heading. Over the years I have built a strong team around me who are constant inspiration to my work, and therefore CASH IN is a celebration of all we have achieved together in past collections.”
