London Collections: Men – Kay Kwok A/W 2014 show
Kay Kwok was once again sponsored by GQ China to present his showcase for autumn/winter 2014 at the BFC Show Space at Victoria House.
Kwok’s unisex designs have rightfully garnered much attention for their outrageous futuristic elements and architectural forms and despite being part of the newer generation of designers, has created such a signature look, it would be hard to imagine LC:M without him. The designer has been known to play with the idea of galactic energies and spiritual journeys in his past collections, and A/W 2014 was no exception.
Once our eyes adjusted to the constant strobe throughout the show, we realised we had only been abducted by aliens and taken to a far-away planet of glittery chests and sideburns. The look was signature Kwok – long neoprene skirt and top sets in graphic prints of spirit molecules and lasers paired with reflective plastic visors. Colours were mostly neutral with digital prints and optical illusions through gradient fabric blocking at its core. A couple of looks included large slabs of plastic worn at a slant – a look that may not be practical on our planet, but on Kwok’s, it worked. Imagine braving the tube (or even a simple doorway) in those looks! We were seeing spots for about an hour afterwards, but it was well worth it.
