London Collections: Men – Savile Row, Woolmark & St James’s A/W 2014 presentation
Savile Row’s tailors and the Gentlemen’s Houses of Mayfair and St. James came together once again to bring us a presentation of British heritage and sophistication. Collections were shown in The Cabinet War Rooms, a preserved historic site where prime minister Winston Churchill took shelter during the Nazi bombing raids of London. Consisting of a series of corridors and rooms, the complex has been kept exactly how it was when the war finished on 15th August 1945, leaving a vivid depiction of what life was like during WWII.
Models and London men were acting out wartime scenes throughout the museum’s exhibits. Some of them were behind glass miming a cabinet meeting, or in a bedroom reading, while the others were scattered throughout the dimmed hallways smoking cigarettes. Garments from tailors like Ede & Ravenscroft, Richard Anderson and Henry Poole were classically cut and proved that you truly can’t go wrong with a good suit. Immaculately slicked back hairstyles and accessories from the likes of John Lobb and Bates topped off the gentlemen’s look.
The showcase stands as testimony to London’s unbeatable reputation as the world capital of menswear. Even Elton John showed up! It was an absolute delight to go back in time and we can’t wait to see what sort of secret location the English Gentlemen will appear in next.
