London Collections: Men – Baartmans and Siegel A/W 2014 presentation
Baartmans and Siegel is a Dutch/English duo who met while at Viktor and Rolf. Despite the designers’ eccentric roots, the brand focuses on functional, accessible designs. For A/W 2014, B&S explored themes of masculine stealth through utility, strength and durability.
The presentation was held at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, a family run gallery down a side street in Covent Garden. After climbing a steep spiral staircase up to the show space, we were greeted with a dramatic chapel-esque setting flooded with blue light and smoky mist. Classical music filled the space and created an intriguing juxtaposition against the gallery’s rough edges.
Sharp tailoring with carefully constructed outerwear was paired with sporty performance wear, leather bombers and sculpted puffer jackets. The brand used a colour combination that appeared to be trending this season – inky blues and blacks all-over with the most subtle splashes of deep reds in the knits. There were hints of luxurious elegance in fur detailing and architectural quiff hairstyles.
The Baartmans and Siegel brand, synonymous with impeccable detailing and masculinity, has become a brand to watch, proving they’re guaranteed to deliver season after season.
