Tight of the Moment: Nike’s next big step into fashion
Nike’s latest collaboration is with Japanese artist Yuko Kanatani and certainly follows her creative themes closely. The new collection, Tight of the Moment, will be ready to hit the ground running for spring 2014. The set of three pairs of tights within the collection are all deliciously vibrant with designs that would make the wearer visible from several miles away. No need for that hi-vis jacket when running in the dark!
Kanatani apparently used a body map so that her illustrations would blend with the mechanisms of a moving body, and this has a wonderfully sleek result in terms of connecting art with athleticism, as well as vivid imagery with the subtlety of the human physique.
They’re made out of Nike’s innovative Dri-FIT fabric, which wicks sweat away from the skin to the fabric itself, keeping the wearer dry and comfortable whilst exercising. What with the millions of fitness New Year’s resolutions that are undoubtedly floating about, these beauties are making a statement at just the right time. Not only will newbie runners be able to enjoy the luxury of sweat banishing material, fashionistas will retain style whilst donning trainers and rain macs.
